UMANG 2011- DAY 01

15 Aug

UMANG HAS FINALLY BEGUN!!!! The first day of Umang 2011: The Samhain’s Hallowed Dream saw a massive turnout of over 5000 people. And for all those who couldn’t make it today, here are a few things you missed out on!

The day commenced with the ceremonial inaugural puja, attended by both the professors and the organisers of Umang’11.

It was the kicks that gave a start to the day in JRM, with football drawing a large number participants and a larger crowd of onlookers, with an extremely spontaneous women’s team that won accolades for their sportsmanship spirit.

Santokba was the host to various events, one being the intellectual discussion held by social activist Dr Binayak Sen.  It also provided the stage for the participants of Mr and Ms Umang to showcase their myriad talents.

As the sun set, the excitement rose to another level. Concrete Junglee made the crowd shout loud and do the headbang all the way.  The highly awaited  Pro-night  had the famous artist Benny Dayal sing for the audience , and yet again, made the energy levels rise further more. The bouts of rain hardly seemed to bother the audience, which was entranced by the scintillating performance by the artist and his band.

With these being the highlights just for the first day  of Umang’11 and 3 days yet to go, expect the unexpected at Umang  and keep reaching for moo-re !

Umang 2011- The Samhain’s Hallowed Dream

05 Jun

The moon is full and bright
And we shall see what can’t be seen
on any other night.
Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,
Grinning goblins fighting duels
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms
In masks and gown we haunt the street
And knock on doors for
trick or
treat
Tonight we are the king and queen,
For oh tonight it’s Halloween!

Cross the thresholds of normality and enter the ‘Realm of Paranomia ’, to witness your most daunting trepidations come to life.  In its 12th year, Umang is now brewing up the perfect concoction to pay homage to one of the most celebrated festivals of the world: Halloween.  This time around, ex- fear- ience the Halloween fiesta as per the fancies of Samhain, the God of Halloween, as you get teleported to a parallel universe where you will encounter all that is clairvoyant and beyond. In this new dimension, befriend your most morbid fears, while revering the spirits that once walked the earth. As we gear up to celebrate our mortality, Umang explores a whole new culture which remains unexploited while resurrecting the traditions practiced since eons ,thus opening new vistas to a festival celebrated with great éclat worldwide.
